News Topical, Digital Desk : Ahead of the March 31, 2026, deadline for the total elimination of Maoist violence, security forces have launched a decisive operation in the Karregutta Hills on the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border. Nearly 2,000 soldiers from Chhattisgarh's Sukma, Dantewada, and Bijapur districts have completely surrounded the hill.
The aim of the security agencies is to completely destroy the remaining network of Maoists and their last safe hideouts.
Based on intelligence inputs, more than 100 Maoist militants, including Kesha and Paparao, are present in the Karregutta area. Based on this information, a strategic cordon and search and combing operation is underway.
Drone surveillance, modern communications equipment, and real-time monitoring are being used to monitor every movement. Logistics, medical, and rapid response arrangements are said to be stronger this time, thanks to a permanent security camp already established at the foot of the Karregutta hill.
It is noteworthy that in 2025, a major security force operation in this same area resulted in the killing of 31 Maoists and the recovery of a large quantity of weapons and explosives. Security officials believe that the current operation could decisively break the remaining strength of the Maoists.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during his recent visit to Bastar, hinted at strict action against active Maoist networks. Since then, operations have been intensified in the state's border hills and forests. Bastar IG Sundarraj P. has appealed to the Maoists to abandon violence and return to the mainstream.
These prominent Maoists are the target of security forces.
