News Topical, Digital Desk : Delhi Cloud Seeding Trial Delayed: Delhi government's cloud seeding (artificial rain) scheme has been postponed from July due to weather related reasons. Now this trial will be held between 30 August to 10 September 2025. Delhi government's Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa has given this information.

Initially, the trial of artificial rain in Delhi was to be done in the first week of July, but the Meteorological Department (IMD) and scientists of IITM Pune have described the current monsoon conditions as bad for this. After this, the scientists of IIT Kanpur recommended delaying the trial.

Cloud seeding is better for controlling pollution.
On this basis, a new date has been fixed from 30 August to 10 September 2025. Also, after the trial, Delhi has become the first state in the country to get official approval from DGCA for cloud seeding for the purpose of controlling pollution.

How will artificial rain happen?
According to Delhi Government's Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, the trial of artificial rain through cloud seeding in Delhi will be conducted in collaboration with IIT Kanpur. This trial will be conducted from a special aircraft named Cessna 206-H (VT-IIT), which has equipment related to cloud seeding. Also, this aircraft will spray particles like sodium chloride from below the clouds, which will produce artificial rain and will help in removing the pollution particles present in the sky.

Earlier the trial was to be conducted from 4th July.
Delhi Government's Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that DGCA had earlier allowed flights from 4th to 11th July. However, on the advice of scientific institutions, it was decided that cloud seeding would not be effective during that time due to the monsoon being active. Now IIT Kanpur has suggested an option from 30th August to 10th September which has been accepted by the government and has also got the approval of DGCA.

Artificial rain will be made in these areas of Delhi
According to the Delhi government, these trial flights for cloud seeding will be focused on those areas where the pollution level is high and where there is a possibility of low-level cloud formation. In such a situation, the Delhi government has identified Alipur, Rohini, Burari, Bawana, Pavi Sadakpur, Kundli Border and some parts of Eastern Peripheral Expressway for cloud seeding.

According to the Delhi government, DGCA guidelines will be fully followed for operating flights during the trial. These include rules like flying under Visual Flight Rules, ban on aerial photography or videography, coordination with ATC and operating within the designated airspace, and all activities will be in accordance with CAR Section 3, Series N, Part I and Air Transport Circular 1/2019.
