News Topical, Digital Desk : The use of hand sanitizer has become quite common since the COVID-19 pandemic. Many people use hand sanitizer to keep their hands germ-free. However, the European Union (EU) is now making a major change. The EU may impose restrictions on the amount of ethanol in hand sanitizer.

According to the report of news agency Reuters, ethanol is used in sanitizer, which is harmful for the skin and can also cause the risk of cancer.

The decision will be taken in the meeting

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has suggested this. ECHA has described ethanol as toxic and has expressed the potential for cancer and pregnancy complications. Therefore, it has suggested replacing ethanol in sanitizers with something else. Meanwhile, a meeting of ECHA's Biocidal Products Committee is scheduled for November 25-28, where a decision on this matter may be made.

WHO had said it was safe

It's worth noting that the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared ethanol and isopropanol safe for hands. It will be interesting to see what the European Union decides on this matter. According to Reuters, the European Chemicals Agency has flatly refused to comment on this matter.
