News Topical, Digital Desk : Iran's foreign minister has said that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the elite force leading the retaliatory strikes against the US and Israel, is acting alone. He stressed that the attack on Oman was not our choice.

The IRGC was created by Ruhollah Khomeini in May 1979, following the Iranian Revolution. It is distinct from the traditional Iranian military. According to a BBC report, following the 1979 change of government, Iran's ruling clerics introduced a new constitution, which provided for a regular military (Artesh) to protect Iran's borders and maintain order, and a separate Revolutionary Guard (Pasdaran) to defend Iran's Islamic system.

IRGC working alone

The IRGC reports to Iran's Supreme Leader, a position previously held by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. However, Khamenei has now been killed in a US-Israeli attack. This means the IRGC is now headless and operating independently.

'The attack on Oman did not happen with our consent'

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi made a surprising statement during an interview with Al Jazeera. When asked about the strike targeting the Oman port, he replied, " What happened in Oman was not our doing. We have already told our armed forces to be careful about the targets they choose. "

He then added, " Actually, our military units are now virtually independent and somewhat isolated. They are operating based on pre-given instructions. "

What is the meaning of this statement?

This statement is significant. It means that the IRGC is not acting on orders from the Iranian government, but rather on the instructions Khamenei gave before his assassination.
