New Delhi:  These days scammers try to trap internet users in different ways. In this connection, CBI has issued an alert regarding WhatsApp CBI scam. CBI says that some cyber criminals are duping common people by posing as fake CBI officers. They are making fake calls to users posing as CBI officers. Similarly, scammers are also reaching common people through email and messages. Scammers are also taking the help of WhatsApp . In this way, scammers have cheated crores of rupees by trapping common people in their net.

CBI logo is being used on WhatsApp DP

CBI says that to trap common people, scammers are even using the CBI logo in their WhatsApp DP. Seeing such logos, WhatsApp users feel that they are really chatting with a big CBI officer. CBI clearly says that the publicly available logo of CBI is being misused. Scammers are threatening the victims with legal action and arrest and are demanding money.

Advice from CBI to be cautious

The CBI has shared different posts from its official X handle and has asked people to be cautious. The agency says that people should be especially cautious about any communication related to the CBI.

A real CBI officer will never ask you for personal and financial information. A real CBI officer will never ask for such information through email or phone.

Be alert about WhatsApp-CBI scam like this

  • If you receive a call from a CBI officer, verify the call instead of immediately trusting the caller.
  • Avoid giving personal and financial information over the phone at the behest of anyone. Apart from this, do not share details on digital platforms as well.
  • Avoid clicking on any link on the online platform. Similarly, avoid downloading any attachment from an unknown sender.
  • Do not remain silent about any kind of suspicious activity, immediately visit the local police station of your area.
