News Topical, Digital Desk : According to the Vedic calendar, Sunday, September 21st, is Ashwin Amavasya today. Every year, on Ashwin Amavasya, offerings are made to all the ancestors. After this, the ancestors return to their abode. A solar eclipse (Surya Grahan 2025 Time) is also expected on Sarva Pitru Amavasya. However, the solar eclipse will not be visible in India. The Sutak period will also not be valid for this eclipse.

Sanatan scriptures state that during an eclipse, the power and influence of the elusive planets Rahu and Ketu, or other negative forces, increases significantly on Earth. Therefore, auspicious activities are prohibited during the eclipse. Furthermore, when the eclipse is visible, one should refrain from eating and drinking during the Sutak period until the eclipse ends. But do you know how long tonight's solar eclipse will last? Let's learn everything about the eclipse.

Sutak

Astrologers believe that when a solar or lunar eclipse is visible, there is a Sutak period. If the eclipse is not visible, there is no Sutak period. The solar eclipse will not be visible in India. This means that one can eat food (dinner) before the eclipse.  When a solar eclipse  is visible, the Sutak period lasts for 12 hours, starting four prahars before the eclipse. On the day of a lunar eclipse, the Sutak period lasts for three prahars.

When will the eclipse begin?

The solar eclipse will begin at 10:59 pm Indian Standard Time (IST). It will end at 3:23 am. The eclipse will last for 4 hours and 24 minutes. Even if the eclipse is not visible or there is no Sutak (sun day) period, one must follow the prescribed rules during the eclipse. To avoid the inauspicious effects of Rahu and Ketu, chant the Mahamrityunjaya mantra during the eclipse. Chanting this mantra will remove all troubles.

Chant these mantras

1. Om Trimbakam Yajamahe Sugandhi Pushtivardhanam.

Urvarukamiv Bandhanaan Mrityormukshiya Mamritat.

2. Namamishmishaan Nirvana form Vibhum wideram Brahma Veda form.

3. Om Tatpurushaya Vidmahe Mahadevaya Dhimahi Tanno Rudra: Prachodayat.

4. Om Shri Vishnuve Cha Vidmahe Vasudevaya Dhimahi Tanno Vishnu: Prachodayat.

5. Om Krishnay Vasudevay Haraye Paramatmane.
