News Topical, Digital Desk : In Hinduism, Ekadashi fasting is considered the most auspicious, but this Ekadashi fasting day, which falls on the bright fortnight of the month of Phalgun, is something else entirely. It is known as 'Amalaki Ekadashi' or 'Rangbhari Ekadashi'.

This auspicious date falls on February 27 in the year 2026. This is the day when devotees perform special puja of the Amla tree to seek the blessings of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi.

The first tree of the universe and the abode of Sri Hari

There's a very interesting story behind Amalaki Ekadashi. Ancient texts and mythological beliefs mention that the Amla tree originated at the same time when Lord Vishnu created Brahma to create the universe. Lord Vishnu himself stated that anyone who worships the Amla tree and offers its fruit on this day will attain salvation.

Auspicious time and special yoga of Panchang

Based on the calendar, this year's Ekadashi falls on Friday, which is also the day of Goddess Lakshmi. This coincidence is like icing on the cake. According to religious beliefs, the presence of Ayushmaan Yoga and Abhijit Muhurta on this day is extremely auspicious for devotees.

Ekadashi Tithi: Will last till 10:32 pm on 27 February 2026.

Auspicious time (Abhijit): 12:11 pm to 12:57 pm, which is best for any auspicious work.

Breaking the fast: It would be best to break it the next day i.e. on 28th February between 06:47 am to 09:06 am.

Amalaki Ekadashi: Simple method of worship

Early morning: Wake up in Brahma Muhurta, take a bath and wear clean (yellow if possible) clothes.

Resolution for the fast: Take a true resolution for the fast by holding water and sesame seeds in your hand in front of the idol or picture of Lord Vishnu.

Worship of Amla tree: If there is an Amla tree nearby, then go there and bow to it, offer water and circumambulate it seven times.

Deepdaan: Light a lamp of pure ghee near the root of the tree or in front of Lord Vishnu and perform aarti with camphor.

Use of Amla: Donating Amla fruit on this day and consuming it as Prasad is considered best for purification of body and soul.

What should be offered as bhog?

On Amalaki Ekadashi, special attention is paid to the offerings. Offering yellow sweets or saffron-flavored kheer to Lord Vishnu on this day is considered highly auspicious. Most importantly, the offering must include basil leaves, as Lord Vishnu does not accept offerings without basil. Break the fast with charanamrit and basil leaves.
