Story of Aja Ekadashi fast

According to the mythological tale, in ancient times there was a Chakravarti King Harishchandra. He faced some problems in his life due to which his entire kingdom was ruined. He lost his wife, son and family. After this he became a maidservant of a Chandal. The Chandal people were truthful. They always spoke the truth in life. They were thinking about what measures they should take so that the king's family could be saved.

Once when they were all sitting, Gautam Rishi arrived. Harishchandra bowed to him and told him all his problems. Gautam Rishi, after listening to his pain, advised him to observe the Aja Ekadashi fast of the Krishna Paksha of the month of Bhadrapada and said that by observing this fast, all sins will be destroyed and your pain will also go away. After this, Harishchandra observed the Aja Ekadashi fast according to the rules and did special worship of Lord Vishnu and performed the Jagran of Shri Hari.

By observing Aja Ekadashi fast, all the sins of Harishchandra were destroyed and flowers rained from the sky. Along with this, he got his family and kingdom back. After death, he attained Vaikuntha. In this way, Aja Ekadashi fast started.
