News Topical, Digital Desk : The Maharashtra government has appointed six senior bureaucrats as the first directors of the Parashuram Economic Development Corporation, created to help the economically weaker sections of the Brahmin community. The announcement to form this corporation for Brahmins was made in September last year during the tenure of the Shinde government.
Will help in uplifting the economic condition of the community
An order in this regard was issued by the State Planning Department on August 19. The new body has been set up to promote agriculture-related activities, processing, storage, small-scale industries, transportation and other enterprises to help uplift the economic condition of the community.
The state has also approved the Memorandum of Association (MOA) and Articles of Association (AOA) for the corporation. Senior officials of the Planning, Finance, Skill Development and Employment, Industries, Agriculture and OBC Welfare departments will serve as ex-officio members of the corporation.
Appaso Dhulaj appointed as the first director of the corporation
The government has appointed Additional Chief Secretary (Planning) Rajagopal Deora, Principal Secretary (Expenditure) Saurabh Vijay, Additional Chief Secretary (Skill Development and Employment) Manisha Verma, Industries Secretary Anbalagan P., Agriculture Principal Secretary Vikas Chandra Rastogi and OBC Welfare Secretary Appaso Dhulaj as the first directors of the corporation.
It is worth noting that the population of Brahmin community in Maharashtra is between 80 to 90 lakhs. 70 percent of them are said to be economically weak. After the Maratha community got 16 percent reservation in education and jobs in Maharashtra, the Brahmins and Kshatriyas also started demanding reservation for the upper castes of the weaker sections.
An amount of Rs 50 crore each was also allocated for both the corporations.
Keeping this in mind, before the last assembly elections in September 2024, the Shinde government had announced the formation of an economic development corporation for the weaker sections of both Brahmin and Kshatriya communities. An amount of Rs 50 crore each was also allocated for both the corporations.
