
News Topical, Digital Desk : The situation has become serious due to floods and landslides in North Sikkim. More than 1400 tourists are stranded due to road closure. Landslides one after another have blocked the roads. Traffic on many important roads is completely stalled.
The Sikkim government has issued a red alert for Mangan district. Due to continuous heavy rains, the Teesta river is in spate, due to which there is a threat of flood in many areas. Mangan Superintendent of Police Sonam Dechu Bhutia has said that roads are closed due to landslides at many places. Tourists have been advised to stay in their hotels.

They will be evacuated after the roads are fully opened. The rescue operation of the missing tourists is also being hampered due to the dangerous condition of the Teesta river. On Thursday, a tourist vehicle met with an accident on the road from Chungthang to Munsithang in North Sikkim. The vehicle went out of control and fell into the Teesta river about 1,000 feet below. According to the police, there were 11 people in the vehicle.
One person was found dead, two injured have been admitted to the hospital. Out of the eight missing tourists, four are from Odisha, two from Tripura and two from Uttar Pradesh. The remaining people are still missing. Heavy rains and landslides are making rescue operations difficult. Kaushalendra Pratap Singh and Ankita Singh, residents of Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh, are also missing. The driver of the vehicle is also missing since the accident.
Seemanchal rivers overflow due to rain
- Due to the rain in Nepal, the water level of Mahananda, Mechi, Kanakayi, Chenga, Nuna and Bakra rivers flowing in Seemanchal of Bihar has increased rapidly, creating a flood-like situation. Temporary bridges built on the rivers have been washed away.
- In Araria, the Nuna and Bakra rivers are overflowing their banks, due to which three to four feet of water is flowing in the lower areas. Fearing floods, people have started migrating to safer places. Water has entered many villages along the border.
