News Topical, Digital Desk : Sukhwant Singh, a resident of village Paiga, ITI police station, Udham Singh Nagar district, Uttarakhand, committed suicide in Kathgodam, Haldwani, on the night of January 10/11, 2026. Police Headquarters has taken significant steps to ensure a fair and transparent investigation. A high-level Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed under the chairmanship of IG STF Nilesh Anand Bharne to thoroughly investigate the case.

According to instructions issued by Police Headquarters, the five-member SIT includes Champawat Superintendent of Police Ajay Ganpati, Tanakpur Circle Officer Vandana Verma, Inspector Diwan Singh Bisht (Champawat District), and Sub-Inspector Manish Khatri (Champawat District). The SIT has also been instructed to conduct a thorough, impartial, and timely investigation of all aspects of the case.

The deceased had released a video before his death.

Given the sensitivity of the matter, the police department took a major administrative decision and removed 12 police personnel, including three suspended sub-inspectors, one additional sub-inspector, one head constable, and seven constables, from the Garhwal Range districts of Chamoli and Rudraprayag with immediate effect. This action was taken to prevent the investigation from being influenced and to maintain impartiality.

Police Headquarters has also clarified that the videos released by the deceased before his suicide and the complaints made via email will be thoroughly examined. The allegations made in these videos and emails against local individuals and certain officers and personnel of the Udham Singh Nagar police district will be investigated based on facts and action will be taken.

SIT will have to submit the investigation report

Police officials say that negligence, pressure, or irregularities at any level will not be tolerated in this case. The SIT will independently investigate the matter based on all evidence, digital evidence, and witness statements and submit its report. This matter remains sensitive at the state level, and further legal action will depend on the SIT's report.
