News Topical, Digital Desk : The Shukra Pradosh Vrat is a highly effective way to please Lord Shiva and attain happiness and prosperity in life. When the Trayodashi Tithi falls on a Friday, it is called Shukra Pradosh. This fast not only brings spiritual peace but also removes financial hardships and bestows prosperity.
Mythological story of Shukra Pradosh fast
According to legend , there lived a Brahmin woman in a town whose husband had passed away. She had no one to support her, so she would go out every morning with her son to beg. She would go hungry herself, but she would feed her son.
One day, while returning from begging, she saw a beautiful boy sitting sadly on the river bank. The boy was the prince of Vidarbha, whose father had been killed in battle by enemies and his kingdom had been taken away. The Brahmin woman took pity on him and brought him to her home.
Some time later, the Brahmin woman accompanied the prince and her son to the ashram of Sage Shandilya. There, the sage explained the significance of Shiva's Pradosh fast and taught them how to perform it. The Brahmin woman and the two boys began observing the Shukra Pradosh fast with complete devotion.
By the grace of Mahadev, the prince met a Gandharva girl. Upon learning of his true identity, the Gandharva king gave his daughter in marriage to him and bestowed upon him a large army. With his army, the prince attacked his enemies and reclaimed his lost kingdom. He appointed the Brahmin woman's son as his prime minister and alleviated her suffering. Just as Mahadev alleviated her poverty, he bestows the same grace upon every devotee who observes the fast.
