News Topical, Digital Desk : Pradosh Vrat holds special significance in Hinduism, especially when it falls on a Friday, and is called Shukra Pradosh. This day is considered auspicious for receiving the blessings of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, as well as for appeasing Venus, the god of material pleasures. It is believed that observing this fast brings happiness, peace, and good fortune. However, some unintentional mistakes can diminish this virtuous result.
Pradosh fast and precautions
The Shukra Pradosh fast is primarily observed for unbroken good fortune and family well-being. According to religious texts and mythological beliefs, worshipping Lord Shiva during Pradosh Kaal (sunset time) is most fruitful. However, women are required to follow certain rules during this fast.
Avoid these mistakes (precautions)
1. Avoid anger and arguments: The scriptures state that one should maintain a calm mind on the day of the fast. Women, in particular, should refrain from harsh words or quarreling at home. Anger destroys the spiritual energy of the fast.
2. Avoid wearing black clothes: One should avoid wearing dark or black clothes on Shukra Pradosh. According to astrological experts, black is considered a symbol of negativity. Wearing red, pink, or yellow clothes on this day is considered auspicious, as it enhances positivity and good fortune.
3. Rules for touching the Shivalinga: Mothers and sisters often touch the Shivalinga emotionally during worship. Although Shiva belongs to everyone, according to temple decorum and traditions , women should worship by offering water or bowing from a distance, rather than touching the Shivalinga directly. Worshiping Goddess Parvati is especially beneficial for women.
4. Avoid tamasic foods: Avoid garlic, onions, or meat in the house on the day of the fast . Even non-fasting members should eat simple foods to maintain the purity of the home.
Importance of Pradosh period
Religious scholars believe that during Pradosh Kaal, Lord Shiva dances in a happy mood on Mount Kailash. Donations and prayers made during this time destroy poverty. Women should light a ghee lamp in the evening and chant "Om Namah Shivaya."
