News Topical, Digital Desk : A case has been registered against the headmaster of a government school in Shimla and three other teachers for repeatedly beating an eight-year-old Dalit boy and putting a scorpion in his pants, police said on Sunday (November 2). In a complaint filed with the police, the father of the first-grade student of a government primary school in Kharapani area of ​​Rohru subdivision of Shimla district has accused headmaster Devendra and teachers Babu Ram and Kritika Thakur of beating his son for almost a year.

Complainants made allegations

The complainant stated that the child's ears began bleeding and his eardrums were damaged due to the constant beating. He also stated that the teachers took his son to the school restroom and put a scorpion in his pants.

Following the complaint, the police registered a case of cruelty to a child under sections 127(2) (wrongful confinement), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 3(5) (committing criminal force to woman with intent) of the Indian Penal Code and the Juvenile Justice Act.

Inquiry ordered against teachers

The teachers have also been charged under sections of the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Police said instructions are being sent to senior officials regarding whether the investigation should be conducted by a gazetted officer.

According to the father, the teachers threatened the boy with arrest if he complained at home. He said that on October 30, the headmaster allegedly threatened to expel the child from school.

The father says the child was told that if the matter was made public, the family would face dire consequences and was threatened with, "We will burn you." The boy's father was also warned not to file a police complaint or post about the incident on social media, or else he would "lose his life."

The complainant also alleged that Kritika Thakur's husband, Nitish Thakur, had been illegally teaching students at the school in her place for the past year. He also accused the school teachers of caste discrimination. He said that Nepali and Harijan students were seated separately from Rajput students during mealtimes.
