News Topical, Digital Desk : Indian equity market exchanges BSE and NSE will remain closed today on account of Holi. Although the exchanges have declared a holiday today, the festival of colours will be celebrated in most parts of the country on Wednesday, March 4. The Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX), the country's largest non-agricultural commodity exchange, will remain closed for trading between 9 am and 5 pm in the first session, but will resume trading from 5 pm to 11:30 pm in the evening session.
National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange will remain closed
Meanwhile, the largest agricultural exchange, the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX), will be closed for both trading sessions. The stock market will resume normal trading on Wednesday. It's worth noting that on Monday, frontline indices Nifty and BSE Sensex fell sharply as selling pressure was seen across the board.
How much did Sensex-Nifty fall?
Sectorally, financial, auto, and consumer stocks were the worst hit on Monday. In a volatile session, the Nifty fell 313 points, or 1.24%, to close at 24,865.70, while the 30-share Sensex fell 1,048 points, or 1.29%, to close at 80,238.85. The India VIX, a risk index, rose 25% to close at 17.13 in the previous session.
In the holiday calendar, the exchanges had initially announced 15 trading holidays but later added January 15 as an additional holiday due to Mumbai BMC elections.

- The market will remain closed on Thursday, March 26 on account of Sri Rama Navami and on Tuesday, March 31 on account of Sri Mahavir Jayanti.
- Good Friday is on Friday, April 3 and Ambedkar Jayanti is on April 14
- Markets will also remain closed on Maharashtra Day on May 1 and Bakrid on May 28.
- The second half of the year includes holidays for Muharram on June 26, Ganesh Chaturthi on September 14 and Gandhi Jayanti on October 2.
- Dussehra is on October 20, followed by Diwali Balipratipada on November 10 and Guru Nanak Jayanti on November 24.
- The last trading holiday of the year will be Christmas on December 25.
