Method of Udyapan

After doing daily chores like bathing in the morning, wear clean and neat clothes. After this, purify the place of worship with Gangajal and place a chowki. Then spread a red cloth on it and place the idol or statue of Shiva-Parvati. To purify yourself, take water in your hand and recite this mantra…

'Om sacred: unholy or sacred.' यह स्मरेत पुंदरिकाक्ष्म स वहयभ्यंतर शुचीः॥'

After this, sprinkle that water on yourself. Then after lighting a lamp and incense, apply sandalwood and rice to Lord Shiva. Apply roli to Goddess Parvati. After this, offer flowers, fruits, sweets, Panchamrit and offer it as Prasad. Also offer other items.
