Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia continued its attacks on Easter Sunday, despite Russian President Vladimir Putin announcing a 30-hour ceasefire.

On Saturday night, Putin went to church and attended the Orthodox Easter service and ordered the army to stop all military activities on the Ukrainian border from midnight. Russia has said that Ukraine should also ceasefire in response but it did not do so and continued the attacks. The Russian army will also attack from Monday morning.

Attacks continued even after the ceasefire

In an internet media post, Zelensky said that Putin tried to send a message of ceasefire by making this announcement but in reality it did not happen. The Russian army continued its activities on many fronts and caused damage to Ukraine.

59 shelling was done from Russia side

The Ukrainian army has said that on Sunday morning, Russia fired 59 rounds of shelling on five fronts along the border. This shows that the fighting on the border has not stopped. Three explosions were heard in the Russian-controlled Ukrainian region of Donetsk on Sunday morning, but the extent of the damage caused by them is not known.

In his Easter message, Zelensky appealed to the Ukrainians not to lose hope for peace. He said, we all know what we are fighting to protect and who is supporting us. Zelensky gave this message while standing in front of St. Sophia Cathedral in Kiev.
