News Topical, Digital Desk : The European Union (EU) delegation building has suffered heavy damage in the latest attack by Russia in Kiev. Euro News has given this information quoting the European Union's ambassador to Ukraine, Maternova.
According to Euro News report, Russia fired missiles on Ukraine's capital Kiev on Wednesday night, killing at least 10 people and injuring dozens. However, no casualties were reported in the attack on the delegation building.
'I am terrified of being attacked'
Ambassador Katerina Maternova strongly condemned the attack, calling it Moscow's true response to peace efforts. European Council President Antonio Costa said he was horrified by the attack and expressed support for the Ukrainian people and EU staff.
"The EU will not be intimidated. Russia's aggression only strengthens our resolve to stand with Ukraine and its people," Costa said. European Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos also criticised Russia for the attack and expressed solidarity with EU staff and Ukrainians.
Zelensky also condemned the attack
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned Russia's missile attack. In a post on Twitter, he said, “At this moment in Kiev, after the Russian attack, the first rescue workers are clearing the rubble of an ordinary residential building. Another major attack on our cities and communities. Again murders. Tragically, at least 8 people have been confirmed dead. One of them is a child. My condolences to all their families and loved ones.”
Meanwhile, Ukraine has criticised Russia for planning to withdraw the Council of Europe from the torture prevention treaty, saying the resolution is a tacit admission of guilt on Moscow's part, reports Al Jazeera. Ukrainian officials have long accused Russia of war crimes and torturing Ukrainian civilians and prisoners of war.
