'RCB created a ruckus in the stadium, police is not a magician or god', said tribunal on Bengaluru stampede:

News Topical, Digital Desk : The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has revoked the Karnataka government's suspension order against senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Vikas Kumar Vikas, who was taken action against in the wake of the massive stampede here last month. 11 people lost their lives in the stampede in front of the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4. There was sharp criticism of the planning and crowd management in the case. CAT has held Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) responsible for the stampede in the stadium.

The court defended the policemen

CAT said that prima facie RCB cricket team is responsible for the huge crowd gathered in Bengaluru on June 4. Due to which 11 people died and many were injured in the stampede. CAT defended the policemen deployed in the stadium and said that they are not magicians or God.

RCB is responsible for a crowd of 3 to 5 lakh

In its observation, the tribunal said, 'Prima facie it appears that RCB is responsible for the gathering of about three to five lakh people. RCB did not take proper permission or consent from the police. Suddenly, they posted on social media platforms and as a result of the above information, the public gathered.'

This cannot be expected from the police in less than 12 hours

The tribunal criticized the last minute announcement of celebrations by RCB and also called it a nuisance. The court said in the order, 'Suddenly, RCB created the above type of nuisance without any prior permission. The police cannot be expected to make all the arrangements required in the Police Act or other rules etc. in a short span of about 12 hours.'

Police does not have 'Aladdin's lamp'- Tribunal

The IPL franchise had posted on social media about the victory parade celebrations on June 4, a day after its first IPL win. The tribunal also defended the role of the police, saying, "Police personnel are also human beings. They are neither 'Gods' nor magicians nor do they have magical powers like 'Aladdin ka Chirag' which can fulfil any wish by merely rubbing a finger."
