News Topical, Digital Desk : 12 workers were killed and four others went missing after a railway bridge under construction on a major river in China collapsed.

Photos released in state media reports show a large section of the bridge missing, with a bent section of the bridge deck hanging over the Yellow River below.

Accident caused by breaking of steel wire 

The steel cable snapped while work was going on at about 3 a.m. on Friday. There were 16 workers on the bridge in Darouin, Qinghai province.

Helicopters and robots deployed to search for corpses

Boats, helicopters and robots are being used to search for the missing. The bridge is 1.6 kilometres long and its deck (upper surface) is 55 metres above the river surface below.
