R. Madhavan was selected as the Padma Shri recipient in the 2026 Padma Awards announced on the eve of Republic Day, recognizing his exceptional service to the arts. Madhavan shared a lengthy post on his official Instagram handle, in which he wrote:
I am deeply grateful to all of you. I humbly accept the Padma Shri. This honor is beyond my wildest dreams, and I accept it on behalf of my entire family, whose support and faith have remained with me through every circumstance. They have been my greatest strength.
This recognition has been possible only because of the blessings of my role models, the good wishes of my well-wishers, the love and encouragement of the public, and the grace of God. I don't view this simply as an award, but as a great responsibility. I promise to carry this honor with dignity, integrity, and a deep commitment to the values it represents. Thank you again to everyone.
