News Topical, Digital Desk : Punjab, once gripped by the drug epidemic, is now witnessing a decisive response. The "War Against Drugs" campaign, launched on March 1, 2025, is no longer just a government program but a fight for Punjab's identity. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann had clearly warned that drug dealers would have no place in the state. And within a year, the situation has proven that this wasn't just a statement, but an intention.

The open-hearted praise that Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria has given to the ongoing 'War Against Drugs' campaign has sent a big political message: when it comes to saving the young generation of Punjab, true work speaks for itself.

By February 2026, 49,436 drug traffickers have been arrested, over 34,000 FIRs have been filed, thousands of kilos of heroin and opium have been seized, and drug money worth crores has been frozen—these figures are enough to show that the government has broken the back of smugglers. The seizure of 1,961 kilos of heroin, 607 kilos of opium, 27.5 quintals of poppy seeds, 47.57 lakh narcotic pills, and 28 kilos of ICE has shaken the entire network. Assets worth Rs 263 crore belonging to 548 smugglers have been frozen—the message is clear: the drug trade is now a losing proposition.

Strong action through technology and strategy

To prevent drone-borne consignments from across the border, the Mann government in Punjab deployed anti-drone systems in Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, and Amritsar. 2,367 CCTV cameras are being installed along the international border. This demonstrates that the Mann government is working with technology and strategy, not just rhetoric. ₹80 crore in cyber fraud money was frozen, marking a simultaneous attack on drug abuse and crime.

A strong attack on terror and gangster network

Terrorism and gangster networks have also been dealt a severe blow. In 2025, 12 terrorist incidents were solved, and 50 module members were arrested. The Internal Security Wing busted 19 modules, apprehending 131 individuals, and recovered a large quantity of weapons, RDX, grenades, and RPGs. The Anti-Gangster Task Force dismantled 416 modules and put 992 gangsters behind bars. This action demonstrates the ongoing campaign to root out the nexus between drugs, terrorism, and gangsters.

Social Participation and the New Punjab

Most importantly, this campaign has received support across political lines. Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria even openly praised the Mann government's campaign. When the government and the governor have been at odds on many issues, such praise speaks volumes. This is proof that the Mann government's action against drugs is not just about politics, but about intention and results.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann clearly stated that this isn't just a police fight, but a society-wide battle. 150,000 "Pind De Pehredars" are active in every village, thousands of youth have been transported to de-addiction centers, and anti-drug awareness campaigns are underway in schools. This isn't just a campaign of arrests, but a mission to save the next generation.

Punjab is now emerging from the shadow of fear. Smugglers are losing their courage, youth are regaining confidence, and families are finding hope. Bhagwant Singh Mann's aggressive, clear, and fearless leadership style has proven that with strong political will, even the most complex problems can be eradicated. 'War Against Drugs' is no longer just a campaign, it is a declaration of a new Punjab.
