News Topical, Digital Desk : Around 9 million devotees took a holy dip in the Sangam and the Ganges at the Magh Mela being held in Prayagraj on Sunday, the Maghi Purnima bathing festival, until 8 a.m., an official said. Despite the bitter cold, devotees continued arriving at the fair site and bathing in the Ganges since midnight on Saturday. He added that around 9 million devotees took a holy dip in the Ganges and the Sangam until 8 a.m. on Sunday.

District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma said that the Kalpvasis, who have been performing Kalpvas at the fair for the past month, will have their final bath in the Ganga on Sunday, so their families have come to take them back home. He said that a large number of devotees are arriving in the morning amidst dense fog, and bathing is continuing smoothly at all the ghats.

Adequate security arrangements at all ghats – District Magistrate

He said, "Adequate security arrangements have been made at all ghats. Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are deployed. Boatmen and divers have also been deployed at all ghats."

Surveillance through CCTV cameras and drones

Verma stated that the fair area is being monitored through CCTV cameras and drones, and that all officials are on patrol throughout the fair. Acharya Rajendra Mishra, president of the Triveni Sangam Aarti Seva Samiti, stated that the month-long Kalpavas of approximately five lakh Kalpavasis at the Magh Mela will conclude with the Maghi Purnima bath, and the Magh Mela will conclude with the Mahashivratri bath on February 15th.

More than 3500 sanitation workers are deployed at the fair.

Divisional Commissioner Soumya Agarwal stated that the 800-hectare fair area has been divided into seven sectors, and over 25,000 toilets have been constructed, and over 3,500 sanitation workers have been deployed. Superintendent of Police (Magh Mela) Neeraj Pandey stated that over 10,000 police personnel have been deployed throughout the fair area to ensure the safety and smooth movement of devotees. Forty-two temporary parking lots with a capacity of over 100,000 vehicles have been created to maintain smooth traffic flow. He added that a total of 12,100-foot-long ghats have been constructed for the Magh Mela 2025-26, with all necessary basic amenities.
