News Topical, Digital Desk : Pope Leo, who arrived in Turkey on his first foreign trip, was given a grand welcome. During his visit, the Pope urged Catholics to unite.

Pope Leo also held a prayer service with Catholic priests and nuns in Turkey. The Pope will also participate in the celebration of the 1,700th anniversary of the First Council of Nicaea, a council of bishops held in the year 325.

Pope to visit Lebanon

The council took place at a time when the Eastern and Western churches were united. Disagreements over papal primacy led to the split in 1054, but even today, Catholics, Orthodox, and most historically Protestant groups accept the Council of Nicaea. The anniversary will take place in Iznik, about 150 kilometers from Istanbul. The pope arrived in Turkiye on Thursday. He will travel to Lebanon on Sunday.
