New Delhi: There is a lot of debate going on about the appointment of subject experts on administrative posts through lateral entry . Many NDA constituents including the opposition party have also criticized the government's decision. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi says that this decision of the government is anti-reservation. At the same time, BJP says that the proposal of lateral entry was brought during the UPA government itself.

Ashwini Vaishnav countered Rahul Gandhi's allegations and said, "Under which system was Manmohan Singh appointed as Finance Secretary in 1976? The then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi directly appointed Manmohan Singh as Finance Secretary as an economic expert, who later also became Finance Minister and Prime Minister.
Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal further said that apart from Manmohan Singh, Montek Singh Ahluwalia was also similarly made the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission.

Ashwini Vaishnav further said, during the Congress rule, people like Sam Pitroda, V Krishnamurthy, economist Bimal Jalan, Kaushik Virmani, Raghuram Rajan were included in the government. Ashwini Vaishnav said that Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani was appointed the head of the Unique Identification Authority of India since 2009.
The Union Minister said, "The NDA government has created a transparent way to implement lateral entry. Recruitment will be done through UPSC in a transparent and fair manner. This reform will improve administration."
