News Topical, Digital Desk : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday reached the milestone of 100 million followers on Instagram, becoming the first world leader and politician to achieve this milestone on the platform. This is a historic achievement that reflects his popularity and digital engagement.
PM Modi joined Instagram in 2014. He has more than double the number of followers of US President Donald Trump, who has 43.2 million followers on Instagram.
The next five major world leaders—Indonesia President Prabowo Subianto (15 million), Brazilian President Lula (14.4 million), Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan (11.6 million) and Argentine President Javier Milley (6.4 million)—also have fewer followers than PM Modi alone.
The gap is also stark in India. PM Modi far outpaces other Indian leaders. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is second with approximately 16.1 million followers, while Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has approximately 12.6 million followers.
This achievement comes while Prime Minister Modi is on a two-day official visit to Israel. On Wednesday, the Israeli Parliament (Knesset) honored him with the "Speaker of the Knesset Medal." This is the Knesset's highest honor and PM Modi was awarded this award for his personal leadership and exceptional contribution to strengthening the strategic relationship between India and Israel. He is the first recipient of this medal.
