News Topical, Digital Desk : The central government on Wednesday assured the public about the supply of petrol, diesel, and LPG. Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, said in a press briefing that the country has adequate crude oil reserves and refineries are operating at full capacity.
The country's annual refining capacity is approximately 260 million tonnes. He clarified that there has been no increase in petrol and diesel prices, and there are no shortages at any petrol pump.
LPG quantity increased
Regarding LPG, the government has increased the amount of commercial LPG from 20 percent to 50 percent. This decision was made on March 21st. States have been asked to prioritize restaurants, hotels, industrial canteens, and migrant laborers.
So far, approximately 22,000 tons of commercial LPG have been allocated to 26 states. Yesterday, Tuesday, approximately 30,000 5-kg cylinders were issued. Sharma stressed that there is no shortage of domestic LPG, with online bookings at 92 percent capacity. Delivery is completely normal.
People are shifting to PNG
Pushing for PNG (piped natural gas) expansion, the government on Tuesday issued another gazette notification, easing application fees and approval timelines.
The government stated that 2.5 lakh new PNG connections were provided in the last 25 days, while 2.2 lakh consumers have switched from LPG to PNG. There have also been 2.5 lakh new registrations. 100% supply of domestic PNG connections is being ensured.
There is no shortage of CNG.
CNG is also being made available in abundance for transportation. Many companies are offering incentives such as free gas up to ₹500 or waiving security deposits.
The government has also proposed to give an additional 10 per cent commercial LPG to states if they cooperate in PNG expansion.
Sharma said all measures are yielding positive results. Citizens have been urged to avoid rumors and book cylinders as normal.
