News Topical, Digital Desk : Amid escalating tensions with Iran, the US Defense Ministry, the Pentagon, is preparing to deploy a second aircraft carrier to increase pressure on Iran to step back from weapons-grade uranium enrichment.
The USS George HW Bush will be dispatched to Central Asia from the East Coast. The ship is currently participating in a series of training exercises off the coast of Virginia.
According to Xinhua News, the ship could quickly complete exercises before departing for Central Asia. However, President Donald Trump has not yet officially ordered its deployment, and this plan could change. If Trump's order comes, the ship could soon be deployed to Central Asia from March 2025, alongside the USS Harry S. Truman, USS Carl Vinson, and USS Abraham Lincoln.
US smuggles Starlick terminal into Iran
A Wall Street Journal report claims that the Trump administration smuggled approximately 6,000 Starlink terminals into Iran as the anti-government protests gained momentum. Starlink is a satellite internet service provider owned by billionaire businessman Elon Musk.
US abandons strategic military base in Syria
The US military on Thursday withdrew its strategic military base in Syria and handed it over to the Syrian army, a sign of strengthening US-Syrian relations that could make further US troop withdrawals possible in the future.
The Al-Tanf base is located on the trilateral border between Syria, Jordan, and Iraq. Established in 2014 during the Syrian civil war, the base was initially relied upon by the US as a hub for the US-led coalition's operations against Islamic State militants.
