News Topical, Digital Desk : Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir has been promoted to the rank of Field Marshal. This decision was taken in the federal cabinet meeting chaired by Pak Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

 

According to Pakistan newspaper Dawn, the Pak government has promoted Asim Munir for his alleged 'excellent strategy' during "Operation Banyan-um-Marsoos". Earlier, Pakistani General Ayub Khan had given himself the title of Field Marshal (Pakistan Army Field Marshal) in the 1960s.

 

Who is Asim Munir? 

After the partition of the country, Munir's father moved from Jalandhar to Rawalpindi. Born in an ordinary family, Munir's father was the principal of a school and the Imam of the local mosque.

 

Munir did his early education at Dar-ul-Tajweed, an Islamic seminary in Rawalpindi. A feeling of religious fanaticism developed in his mind since childhood.

 

After this, he graduated from the Officers Training School in Mangala in the year 1986. Munir then got commissioned in the 23rd Battalion of the Frontier Force Regiment. He started his military career on 25 April 1986.

 

As a Lieutenant Colonel, Munir also served in the Siachen Glacier. As a Brigadier, he served as the Chief of Staff of Pakistan's I Strike Corps Mangla. He is the only Army Chief in the history of Pakistan to have served as the head of both major military intelligence agencies of Pakistan, ISI and Military Intelligence.
