News Topical, Digital Desk : Pakistan's economy is no longer a story of numbers, but of devastation on the ground. Small businesses across the country have openly declared 2025 a year of economic collapse.

A report by the All Karachi Traders Alliance (AKTA) shows that businesses are in ruins, investments are fleeing, and unemployment has reached explosive levels. Political instability and policy paralysis have made the situation worse.

The year of lockdown

The report stated that business activity remained below 60 percent throughout the year. Small and medium-sized businesses were shuttered. AKTA President Atiq Mir described 2025 as a year of lockdowns, saying that thousands of businesses were ruined, devastating ordinary families. Investor confidence was completely shaken, and capital continued to flee the country.

Inflation made life difficult for the poor and middle class. The government was accused of falsely claiming stability based on artificial economic indicators, while providing no protection to business and industry.

Foreign visits of government officials are also useless.

More than 35 foreign visits by government officials, all in the name of attracting investment, yielded no results. Instead, heavy taxes and skyrocketing electricity, gas, and fuel prices further crippled the economy.

Flour, pulses, milk, and vegetables are beyond the reach of the general public. Markets are deserted even during the festive season. In many areas, more than 50 percent of workers are unemployed.

A report described Karachi as a besieged city, plagued by extortion, lawlessness, and administrative failure. The AKTA leveled serious allegations against the Sindh government of misgovernance and collusion with profiteers.
