News Topical, Digital Desk : The US Justice Department on Friday released a large portion of its investigative records related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein under a law aimed at revealing what the government knew about Epstein's sexual exploitation of minor girls and his connections to the wealthy and powerful.
According to Deputy Attorney General Tad Blanch, more than 3 million pages of documents have been released in this phase. These files have been posted on the Justice Department's website and include records that were withheld in the initial release in December.
52 lakh pages are being reviewed
The disclosure was made under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which was passed after prolonged public and political pressure. After missing a December 19 deadline set by Congress, the department said it had engaged hundreds of lawyers to review the 5.2 million pages, ensuring that portions remain confidential to protect victims' identities and ongoing investigations.
Earlier, thousands of pages of documents released just before Christmas were either already public or heavily redacted. These files also include flight logs from the 1990s, which revealed the names of Donald Trump and former President Bill Clinton.
Epstein committed suicide in 2019.
However, neither has been accused of any wrongdoing and has denied knowledge. Epstein committed suicide in prison in 2019. In 2021, his associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, was convicted of sex trafficking and is serving a 20-year sentence.
