On the evening of Sarva Pitru Amavasya, light a ghee lamp near the Tulsi plant and circumambulate it seven or eleven times. This ensures the blessings of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Reciting the Tulsi Chalisa during the offering of water to your ancestors on this day can also be beneficial.

On the new moon day of Pitru Paksha, certain rules related to Tulsi should be observed. Tulsi should not be worshipped or its leaves should not be plucked on this day. Doing so could anger Goddess Lakshmi.
