News Topical, Digital Desk : The uproar over SIR in Bihar has not stopped and the Election Commission has now prepared to implement it in the entire country. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar had called a meeting in Delhi in which Election Commissioners of all states and union territories were present. In the meeting, a presentation was given in front of the CECs of all the states. All the officials have been asked to prepare for SIR soon. According to sources, the Election Commission has asked the CEOs of all the states to complete the necessary preparations by September 30. Most of the states have said that they will be ready by the end of September. Its formal announcement can be made soon.
The Election Commission will review the preparations and then a Special Intensive Review (SIR) will be conducted across the country. The Election Commission may start the process of SIR in some states later this year.
The fight over SIR intensifies in Bengal
Elections are due in West Bengal next year, the battle over SIR is intensifying there. Meanwhile, this meeting of the Election Commission was very important. There is a ruckus in Bihar over the deletion of names of 65 lakh voters. Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav are raising this issue vigorously in Bihar. Bengal may be next, so it is clear that the battle over SIR will intensify further.
What is SIR?
Special Intensive Revision is a process under which the Election Commission updates the voter list. For example, many times it is found that a person has died but his name is present in the voter list, sometimes a person turns 18 years old but his name is not added in the voter list, in such a situation, names are removed or added from the voter list through Special Intensive Revision.
Many times people have left the area where the election is taking place, in such case also the name of the voter is removed from the list through SIR.
Will all voters have to show documents?
Many people have this question that the way the SIR process is being done, will all voters have to show their documents. Actually this is not the case at all. If a voter's name has been deleted from the voter list for any reason, then he can get his name added to the voter list by showing his documents. Those whose names are already in the voter list do not need to show any kind of document.
