News Topical, Digital Desk : Have you ever had acidity? Often we think it is limited to stomach pain, heartburn or sour burps, but do you know that there is a strange symptom that can clearly indicate acidity?

Yes, if you are not able to drink one or two glasses of warm water, then it can be a sign of increased acidity in your body. Dietitian Rita Jain has recently shed light on this unique symptom through an Instagram reel. Let's understand how it works.

connection between hot water and acidity

Generally, drinking warm water dilutes the acid present in the stomach and   relieves the symptoms of acidity . It helps to calm the acid. This is why many people recommend drinking warm water when you have acidity.

That's why it has the opposite effect

Dietitian explains that when the amount of acid in your stomach is very high and you are not physically active (i.e. not moving much), drinking hot water can worsen the situation. In such a situation, hot water can push the acid back into the food pipe. This can make you feel nauseous immediately, as if you are about to vomit.

Why does this happen?

When the acid builds up too much and you are inactive, the pressure in the stomach can increase. In such a situation, warm water which normally dilutes the acid puts more pressure on the stomach and pushes the acid upward. This situation causes discomfort and leads to nausea.

What to do?

You try to drink a glass or two of warm water and feel nauseous, especially when you are experiencing other symptoms of acidity as well, do not take it lightly. Yes, as this can be a clear sign of increased acidity in your body.

If you feel like this, first of all, pay attention to your eating habits. Spicy, oily food, caffeine and too many citrus fruits can increase acidity. Eat food at small intervals and avoid eating just before sleeping.

When to take expert advice?

If this symptom occurs frequently or other symptoms of acidity bother you a lot, it is very important to consult a dietician or a doctor. They can suggest necessary changes in your lifestyle and diet and can give you better advice after making a correct diagnosis.
