So far 30 people have died and many are reported injured due to rain, floods and landslides in Assam, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur. In view of the flood situation, an alert has been issued in many areas. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rains in these states in the coming days. So far eight people have died in Assam

According to news agency PTI, eight people have died so far due to floods and landslides in Assam due to continuous heavy rains. 17 districts have been submerged and more than 78,000 people have been affected due to heavy rains.


Four people died in Mizoram

Heavy rains have triggered landslides in Mizoram, killing four people - three of whom were refugees from Myanmar - and injuring another. The total number of rain-related deaths in the state has now risen to five, reports PTI.

Six killed in three days in Meghalaya

Two girls were killed by lightning and another man drowned due to heavy rains in Meghalaya. The six deaths have been reported in the last three days, according to PTI. Landslides, flash floods and power supply disruptions have affected around 1,100 people in 49 villages. 

Nine people killed in Arunachal Pradesh

Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed grief over the nine deaths caused by landslides - seven in East Kameng and two in Ziro Valley - and announced an ex-gratia of ₹4 lakh for each of the affected families. The IMD has forecast heavy rain, thunder and lightning from June 1 to 5, and heavy rain is likely to continue on June 5 and 6.

People in Imphal also troubled

Incessant rains led to flood-like conditions in many areas of Imphal on Saturday, leading to heavy waterlogging and disrupting everyday life. Roads were flooded with knee-deep water and traffic was badly affected. Water entered houses and shops in low-lying areas, while inadequate drainage systems failed to handle the heavy rains, forcing locals to take emergency measures to protect their belongings.

Tourists stranded in Sikkim

On the other hand, in Sikkim, about 1,500 tourists were stranded in different parts of North Sikkim on Saturday due to the blockage of the main road due to continuous rain and landslides. On the other hand, the search for eight missing tourists was hampered due to heavy rains and the search operation was finally suspended after the water level in the Teesta river increased, officials said. One person died and two others were injured while eight others are missing after a vehicle fell into the Teesta river in Mangan district on Thursday night.
