News Topical, Digital Desk : Following US President Donald Trump's decision regarding H-1B visas, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar has commented on the situation. Jaishankar said that many countries' local populations cannot meet their labor needs and are forced to rely on migrant workers.

S. Jaishankar, speaking at an event organized by the Observer Research Foundation, advocated for a global workforce, saying it was unavoidable. Jaishankar added that the question of where to place this global workforce could be a subject of political debate.

Told the global workforce is important

"If you look at demand and demographics, in many countries, national demographics alone cannot meet the demand," Jaishankar said. He added that this is a reality and there's no escaping it. He added, "How can we create a more acceptable, modern, efficient global workforce model, distributed across a global workplace?"

Jaishankar said, “I think this is a very important question facing the international economy today. In a very short time, we will be in a different world in terms of technology, trade, connectivity, and workplaces. In today's volatile environment, it is crucial for major countries to develop their ability to become self-reliant, and this is receiving a lot of attention in India.”

S. Jaishankar's statement comes at a time when Trump has increased the H-1B visa fee to $100,000. Trump claims that foreigners are stealing American jobs. Indians are the biggest beneficiaries of H-1B visas. Indians are in high demand in American companies. Renowned American tech firms are led by people of Indian origin.
