New Delhi: The Supreme Court has directed the Bengal government and the Kolkata Municipal Corporation to ensure that illegal and unauthorised constructions on enemy properties in the city are immediately demolished.
Let us tell you that under the Enemy Property Act 1968, any property owned, held or managed by an enemy or an enemy firm is defined as enemy property.
Warning of contempt action
A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjwal Bhuyan pulled up the Bengal government for not complying with its order to appoint a Nagar Bhavan Tribunal for the aggrieved parties and warned of contempt action.
While pronouncing the order in open court, Justice Suryakant said, 'The Government of Bengal, Kolkata Municipal Corporation, Custodian of Enemy Property of India and all other concerned authorities are directed to immediately demolish the illegal and unauthorised construction as per the direction of the High Court.'
