News Topical, Digital Desk : A new twist has emerged in the murder case of Akhlaq, who was killed in the infamous 2015 Dadri mob lynching in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. On Monday, Mohammad Akhlaq's wife, Ikraman, filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court against the state government, challenging the government's decision to withdraw the case. A double bench of the court is expected to hear the case on January 5, 2026.

Ikraman has named 21 individuals, including the state government, as defendants in her petition. She previously filed a petition in the trial court challenging the state government's decision. All the accused in this case are out on bail. She argues that withdrawing a case involving murder is wrong and against justice.

What was the whole matter?

It's worth noting that on September 28, 2015, 52-year-old Mohammad Akhlaq was beaten to death by a mob in Bishara village, Greater Noida, on suspicion of storing beef in his refrigerator. His son, Danish, was also seriously injured in the incident. This incident sparked an uproar across the country and sparked a new debate about mob lynching.

The government had applied to withdraw the case

The case gained momentum when the Uttar Pradesh government recently filed an application in the trial court under Section 321 CrPC to withdraw the case against all 19 accused. The government claimed this would restore social harmony, but the victim's family objected.

21 people, including the state government, were made defendants.

Akhlaq's wife, Ikraman, has named 21 defendants, including the state government and all the accused, as defendants in her petition. The petition demands the government order be rescinded. According to the victim's family, withdrawing a case in a serious matter like murder is an abuse of law and does not set a good precedent for the future. Furthermore, the family has filed an objection with the trial court. Eighteen accused are out on bail in this case, including three minors.

After 10 years of hoping for justice, the family is now struggling to keep the case in court. The High Court's decision will be known only on January 5th. But suddenly, this controversial case has returned to the headlines.
