News Topical, Digital Desk : Interesting news has emerged ahead of the municipal elections in Maharashtra, scheduled for January 15th. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, a member of the ruling Mahayuti alliance, has contacted the Congress party, sources said. Ajit Pawar called Congress leader Satej Patil last night regarding the Pune Municipal Corporation elections.

What did the Congress leader reply?

Ajit Pawar's NCP is an ally of the BJP and Shiv Sena in Maharashtra. The three parties run the government together. Sources said that Ajit Pawar proposed discussing the alliance during a telephone conversation, to which Satej Patil replied that he would have to discuss the issue with his party, which wants a respectable share of seats.

What are the chances of an alliance between NCP and Congress?

However, sources also said that the possibility of an alliance between Ajit Pawar's NCP and the Congress appears unlikely. Congress is unwilling to contest fewer seats in the 165-member Pune Municipal Corporation. The Pune Lok Sabha seat went to the Congress under the seat-sharing arrangement within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), sources said, adding that the party needs a strong vote share to strengthen its base.

BJP and NCP will fight separately in Pune

It should be noted that the BJP and Ajit Pawar's party, which are part of the Mahayuti (grand alliance), will contest the Pune Municipal Corporation elections separately. While Ajit Pawar has contacted the Congress for Pune, the Congress is in talks with its ally, the Shiv Sena (UBT), and Sharad Pawar's party.

Interestingly, reports of discussions between Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar factions have also emerged in Maharashtra's political circles. When Supriya Sule was questioned about this on Monday (December 22nd), she said that if any suggestions come, they are open to discussion.
