New Delhi:  The Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA) has announced a nationwide shutdown of elective services on Monday in solidarity with the residents of Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College, following the rape and murder of a woman post graduate trainee doctor at the college on August 9. 

These hospitals also decided 

Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, Lady Hardinge Medical College and associated hospitals have also decided to suspend elective services. Maulana Azad Medical College and its associated hospitals will suspend elective services including OPD, wards and elective OT indefinitely from August 12.

The tragic incident has kicked up a political storm in West Bengal. On August 10, Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee proposed an ordinance or bill to complete the trial of rape cases within seven days. He criticised the politicisation of the issue and emphasised the need for speedy justice.

Candle march taken out after the murder of Kolkata doctor

On Saturday, August 10, a group of doctors from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, took out a candle march on Saturday evening to protest against the death of a woman at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal.

Similarly, doctors of Delhi's Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital also protested demanding a CBI probe into the incident. Congress workers in Kolkata also took out a protest rally for justice on Saturday.
