Wayanad: After a day's rest, a massive search operation resumed in the landslide-hit areas of Wayanad on Sunday as rescue workers looked for missing people after the devastating natural calamity.

Earlier on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the disaster-affected areas of Mundakkai and Choorlamala. In view of the PM's visit, the search operation was stopped on Friday afternoon. In fact, this entire area was handed over to the SPG in view of the PM's security.

Centre will help Kerala in relief and rehabilitation: PM

On Saturday, after visiting the landslide-affected area, PM Modi assured that the central government will leave no stone unturned to help Kerala in relief and rehabilitation. He described this tragedy as a fierce form of nature.

Landslide survivors and victims' families join the operation

Besides police and fire service personnel, the rescue operation involved volunteers from various service and youth organisations, landslide survivors and relatives of the victims.

More than 1200 employees deployed

At the same time, after the landslide tragedy, the central government took immediate action and deployed more than 1,200 personnel from various departments including Army, Air Force, Navy, NDRF, Fire Services and Civil Defense for rescue and relief operations at the site.

According to Kerala government data, 229 people have died in the landslide, while more than 130 people are still missing.
