New Delhi: To make agriculture schemes easily accessible to common farmers, an identity card like Aadhaar will be issued. For this, the government will register farmers across the country. This scheme of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare is a part of the Digital Agriculture Mission of Rs 2,817 crore.

Registration of five crore farmers

This information was given by Agriculture Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi on Monday during the Outlook-Agritech Summit and Swaraj Awards. The program was organized in collaboration with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). Under the scheme, a target has been set to register five crore farmers by March next year.

This special identity card will also help in reducing the complexity of verification while applying for schemes like Minimum Support Price (MSP) and Kisan Credit Card. 19 states have agreed to join the scheme. A pilot project has already been run in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh for this.

Technology like chatbox developed

This new registration will facilitate farmers' access to various agricultural schemes. It will also help in implementing government schemes in a highly effective manner. A technology like an AI based chatbox is also being developed for farmers.
