New Delhi: ED has attached fugitive Nirav Modi's property worth Rs 29.75 crore. Earlier, property worth Rs 2,596 crore belonging to Nirav and his associates in India and abroad has been attached. Nirav Modi was declared a fugitive economic offender by the Mumbai PMLA court in December 2019.
Nirav Modi is lodged in a British jail
Fugitive Nirav is currently lodged in a UK jail and has lost his extradition plea to India in connection with the alleged bank loan fraud case, which is also being investigated by the CBI. The ED is investigating the case's prime accused Nirav and his uncle Mehul Choksi as well as others on charges of money laundering for allegedly committing fraud in connivance with bank officials.
Nirav was arrested in London
Nirav Modi was declared a fugitive economic offender by the Mumbai PMLA court in December 2019. He was arrested in London the same year. Extradition proceedings were initiated against Nirav Modi and are in progress in the UK. Earlier this year, Nirav Modi applied for bail in a UK court, but it was rejected for the seventh time. The agency said that Nirav had filed an appeal before the UK High Court against the bail order, which was later withdrawn.
