At 8:45 pm Indian time (9 pm Nepali time), the President administered the oath of office and secrecy to Karki at Shital Niwas. At the same time, India welcomed the formation of an interim government under the leadership of former Chief Justice Sushila Karki in Kathmandu on Friday.

Further said that as a close neighbour, a democracy and a long-term development partner, India will continue to work closely with Nepal for the well-being and prosperity of both their countries and peoples.

Sushila Karki, who was sworn in by President Ramchandra Paudel at a formal ceremony in Kathmandu on Friday, has become Nepal's first female interim prime minister. Her appointment comes after the resignation of KP Sharma Oli earlier this week after a youth-led movement demanded a non-political, credible person to steer the country through the crisis.

 

There was a consensus on Karki's cabinet being a three-member body

There is a consensus on Karki's cabinet having three members, but considering the workload, it can be increased to seven. The Prime Minister will decide who will be the faces of the cabinet. It is believed that the faces of the cabinet will be decided by Saturday.

According to sources, the formation of two commissions has also been approved. One of these will be a judicial commission, which will investigate the violence case and the other will be the Anti-Corruption Commission, which will work for honest administration and investigate cases of corruption.

 

Hotel industry faces losses of Rs 25 billion

Nearly two dozen hotels in Nepal have been vandalised, looted or set on fire during anti-government protests led by Gen-G youth. More than 25 billion Nepali rupees have been lost in this. Hotel Association Nepal (HAN) has said that among the worst affected hotels is Kathmandu's Hilton Hotel. It alone has suffered losses of more than eight billion rupees.

 

Other major domestic and international brand hotels in Kathmandu Valley, Pokhara, Butwal, Bhairahawa, Jhapa, Biratnagar, Dhangadhi, Mahottari and Dang-Tulsipur also bore the brunt of the violence. The association has also urged the government for an economic relief package for repair and reconstruction.

death toll rises to 51

Nepal Police said the death toll during the protests has risen to 51. These include a 55-year-old Indian woman (Rajesh Devi Gola, a resident of Ghaziabad) and three policemen. Police said 17 bodies were recovered from different parts of the country on Thursday and Friday.

Internet media is full of posts like "Congratulations to the first woman Prime Minister", "Succeed, save and build the country", "Thank you Gen-G who made this possible".

A girl expressed her happiness on the appointment of the first woman Prime Minister in her Facebook status and wrote, "Yes, this is my home, my college, now my country will also run with the love, sacrifice and affection of my mother."
