Story of the fast of Maa Chandraghanta

Over time, Mahishasura's terror spread throughout the three worlds. This caused panic in heaven. Mahishasura wanted to conquer heaven and establish his supremacy. With this in mind, Mahishasura attacked heaven. In this war, the gods supported Indra, the king of heaven. Meanwhile, the demons fought on Mahishasura's behalf.

Indra and the gods were defeated in this battle. Indra and all the gods were expelled from heaven. They all approached Brahma, who advised them to approach Vishnu. They went to Vishnu and recounted the tale of Mahishasura's terror. Lord Vishnu listened attentively. He then said that they should all go to Lord Shiva. They all reached Kailash.

At that moment, a powerful force appeared from the radiance of the Trinity. The gods greeted Goddess Chandraghanta. All three worlds echoed with her praises. Lord Vishnu, Shiva, and Brahma then bestowed weapons upon the Goddess. The Goddess then roared and challenged Mahishasura to battle.

A fierce battle ensued between Mahishasura and the goddess Chandraghanta. Mahishasura was defeated in this battle. At that time, goddess Chandraghanta freed the three worlds from fear by slaying him. All the gods and goddesses gave goddess Chandraghanta a grand welcome.
