News Topical, Digital Desk : Navratri 2025: Navratri... means devotion, fasting, and the blessings of Goddess Durga. This nine-day austerity not only symbolizes our faith but also serves as a way to purify the body and mind. But have you ever wondered why, even after fasting, you might experience bloating, acidity, or gas?

Actually, all of this happens because of mistakes that we often overlook. If you want to keep this year's Navratri fast without any problems, avoid these 5 mistakes (Navratri Fasting Mistakes).

Excessive fried and spicy food

Fasting doesn't mean you should fill your stomach with buckwheat puris, pakoras, and potato chips. These foods are heavy and difficult to digest due to frying in oil. This can cause gas and acidity in the stomach. Try to eat boiled, roasted, or low-fat foods, such as sago khichdi, potatoes with yogurt, or fruit.

Consuming tea and coffee on an empty stomach

Drinking tea or coffee on an empty stomach during a fast is a major mistake. The caffeine in tea and coffee increases stomach acid production, which can lead to acidity and heartburn. Instead, you can drink lemon water, buttermilk, coconut water, or fruit juice, which will keep you hydrated and soothe your stomach.

drink less water

People often focus on their food and drink during fasting, but forget to drink water. Dehydration  can  lead to constipation and acidity. Therefore, drink adequate amounts of water throughout the day. Additionally, you can consume water-rich fruits like cucumber, watermelon, and radish.

Eating more citrus fruits

Some people believe that eating fruit during a fast is best. This is true, but limit your intake of citrus fruits. If you already  have acidity  , avoid eating citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, or seasonal fruits on an empty stomach. You can instead eat bananas, papayas, or apples, which are milder on the stomach.

staying empty stomach for a long time

Some people abstain from eating anything from morning to evening during a fast. This causes acid to build up in the stomach, leading to gas and acidity. Eat light snacks every now and then. Eating soaked almonds, walnuts, and bananas in the morning helps maintain energy throughout the day.

Keep these things in mind

  • Early morning: Eat soaked nuts or a banana with lukewarm water.
  • During the day: Eat fruits, curd or buttermilk.
  • Lunch: Eat low-oil sago khichdi, water chestnut or buckwheat roti and curd.
  • Evening: Eat light snacks like makhana or roasted peanuts.
  • At night: Eat light vegetables and roti or drink milk before going to sleep.
