The doors of this temple are opened only on Nag Panchami in the year, behind which there is a special reason. Let's know about it.

when will the temple gates open

This time Nag Panchami (Nag Panchami 2025) will be celebrated on 29th July. Thus, the doors of Nagchandreshwar temple will be opened for devotees on 29th July. On this day, devotees will be able to take advantage of the darshan of Lord Nagchandreshwar for 24 hours. On the day of Nag Panchami, special puja and aarti are performed in the temple and after this the doors of the temple are closed again.

Specialty of the temple

Nagchandreshwar temple is situated on the peak of Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga temple. The idol of the serpent god installed here is said to be of the 11th century. It is also said that this idol was brought to India from Nepal. You must have seen Lord Vishnu sitting on a serpent bed.

But this is the only temple in the world where Lord Shiva is seated on a serpent bed. In this amazing idol, the serpent god has spread his hood and above him are seated Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati and others. On the auspicious occasion of Nag Panchami, Trikal Puja of Lord Nagchandreshwar is performed.

Reason for opening only once

According to the legend, once the king of snakes Takshak performed severe penance to obtain the blessings of Lord Shiva. Mahadev was very pleased with the king's penance and he gave him the boon of immortality.

After this, King Takshak Naag started living in the proximity of Lord Shiva i.e. in Mahakal forest. But the king wished that no one should disturb his solitude. This is the reason why the doors of Nagchandreshwar temple are opened only on Nag Panchami.
