Amid the situation of civil war brewing in Bangladesh, Mohammad Yunus said that peace is slipping away in Asia and beyond, wars and man-made conflicts are destroying the lives and livelihoods of thousands of people. Mohammad Yunus is on a visit to Japan. He said this in Tokyo.

 

 Maulana who killed thousands of people was released

Recently, the Supreme Court of Bangladesh has released a terrorist of Jamaat-e-Islami. The name of this terrorist is Azharul Islam. This Maulana was serving a sentence for war crimes like rape, murder and kidnapping committed in 1971.

 

He was arrested in 2012 during the Awami League government. He along with the Pakistan Army killed 1,256 people, kidnapped 17 people and molested about 13 women. Mohammad Yunus government is being criticized a lot due to this incident.

 

What did Yunus say on India-Pakistan tension?

"We are going through a period of great uncertainty. We are seeing a world where peace is fragile, tensions are rising and cooperation is not always guaranteed," he said in Tokyo, the capital of Japan.

 

Yunus said wars are destroying the lives and livelihoods of thousands of people in Ukraine, Gaza and countries in South and Southeast Asia. Without naming India and Pakistan, Yunus said, "Recently our two neighbours fought a small but costly war. Sadly, we are spending billions fighting wars, leaving millions of our people starving or struggling for basic necessities."
