News Topical, Digital Desk : Reliance Industries (RIL) has allotted shares in its newly demerged consumer goods company, Reliance Consumer Products Limited (RCPL), to 13 companies owned by large financial investors who already hold a stake in its retail holding company. According to RCPL's regulatory filing with the Registrar of Companies (RoC), these financial investors together will hold a 16.45% stake in the company, while parent company RIL will hold the remaining 83.55%.
Who got shares of Reliance Consumer?
According to the information, the share allotment took place on December 2, a day after its demerger from Reliance Retail Ventures Limited (RRVL) was completed and RCPL became a direct subsidiary of RIL. The investors who have received shares in RCPL include companies like TPG, Qatar Investment Authority, KKR (private equity firm), Silverlake, GIC and Mubadala Investment Company.
These transactions have taken place with RCPL shares at a face value of ₹10 per share and a premium of ₹0.88 per share. It may be noted that after the allotment, the paid-up share capital of the demerged RCPL has increased from ₹6 lakh to ₹3,505.62 crore, as per the filing dated December 31.
Reliance Consumer Products listing expected
RCPL will operate as Reliance Retail Ventures, the retail business holding company. Experts believe that the manner in which Reliance has separated its consumer goods business could mean the imminent formation of a strategic joint venture or the listing of a new company.
Campa Cola is the best selling brand.
It is worth noting that RCPL's best-selling brand has been Campa Cola, followed by its staple brand Independence. The company is relaunching several older brands, including Velvet and Ravalgaon, in new avatars. Before the demerger, most of Reliance's FMCG brands were owned by the retail firm.
Now, RCPL owns all FMCG brands. The company said this was done because the consumer goods business is different from the retail business, requiring different focus, skills, funding, and attracting different types of investors.
