News Topical, Digital Desk : Police officials in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday formed a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe allegations that Congress MLA Arif Masood was running a college on the basis of fake documents to get recognition for his institution.

The SIT will be headed by Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Telecom Sanjiv Shami and Chhindwara Range Deputy Inspector General Kalyan Chakraborty and Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Training Nimisha Pandey are the other members of the SIT, officials said.

Arif Masood is the secretary of Aman Education Society

The government had cancelled the recognition of Indira Priyadarshini College Bhopal, run by Aman Education Society, on June 9, which Masood had challenged in the High Court. Masood is the secretary of this society.

The FIR was filed against him following a direction passed by the Madhya Pradesh High Court while hearing a petition filed by the MLA.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Anil Bajpai said an FIR was registered at the Kohifiza police station under sections 420 (cheating) and 471 (using forged documents) of the Indian Penal Code.

What did the court say to the DGP?

A division bench of Justice Atul Shridharan and Justice Pradeep Mittal in Jabalpur on Monday ordered the Bhopal Police Commissioner to file an FIR against Masood within three days. The court said that the DGP should form a special investigation team to investigate the matter.
